What is Computer Software ?

Hardware and software are both important in computer systems. These two cannot work without each other. A computer software is a group of different programs that instruct the computer hardware to work. Software, makes it easy for the users to work on the computer. Computer software cannot be touched. It can only be seen and understood because computer software has no physical existence. Different software is used to perform different tasks in a computer. Such as - Notepad, WordPad, MS-Office, Photoshop, etc.

1. What is System Software ?

System software is the software of the computer that controls the hardware of the computer. With the help of system software, you can easily do your work on the computer. Due to system software, the operating system is able to interact with the hardware of the computer system. System software is an important part of a computer, without it the computer cannot do any work. System software is a group of programs that handle all the functions of a computer. System software is already installed in the computer. System software is the most basic program of a computer and it works at the basic level hence it is called a low level software program. System software runs in the background of the computer so it handles all the tasks on its own. No user is required for this.

Such software which is used by the user to complete a particular task is called application software. Application software are programs designed for the user to perform specific tasks. The user can use various application software in the computer for various tasks. The system software works on its own, but the application software works by the user. Application software connects the user to the computer.

Utility software increases the working capacity of the computer and helps it function smoothly. Utility software is used to keep computer systems organized and secure.
