Booting Process

You must have seen, when we press the power button and turn on the computer, Black Screen appears and after a few seconds it disappears itself and the computer gets turned on. When a Black Screen comes for a while. At that time the computer is getting booting process, in which the computer checks all the devices such as Hard Disk, RAM, Motherboard, CPU, BIOS etc. And loads the operating system in RAM. This process is very fast. It takes a few seconds, but there are many activities in this short time.

This is a process of a few seconds that occurs during the power on of the computer, which is called Booting Process. This process includes the process from POST to loading the operating system on the RAM, till the Desktop Screen Appears. During the booting process, many small processes are completed internally in a sequence. First of all, the CPU reads the ROM's instructions i.e. BIOS (Basic Input Output System) and according to the load instruction in it, in a sequence the hardware devices like keyboard, mouse, webcam, printer etc. installed in the whole computer system are checked. Which is called POST (Power On Self Test). During this, if there is a fault in any of the devices, then its error message shows on our desktop screen. During the booting process, if the POST condition is OK, the CPU further searches the booting device and as soon as the booting device is found, then loads its operating system (OS) on the RAM. After that the Home Screen of that operating system appears in front of us.

Types of Booting Process:-

2. Warm Booting Process

1. Cold Booting Process :- When a previously turned off computer is turned on. And the booting process that happens while the computer is turned on is called cold booting.

2. Warm Booting Process :- On the hang of an already running computer, by pressing Alt + Ctrl + Del button by keyboard and restarting the computer, then the booting process happening during that time is also called warm booting process or reboot.
