What is hardware? In today's post, you will know what is hardware and how many types are there? If you are interested in Computer, then you must have heard about these two words Hardware and Software. Because it is both the main computer parts, without these the computer has no existence. This is exactly the same as a person without body and mind. That is why if you understand the functionality of these parts of the computer, then you can solve the basic computer problem very easily.

The definition of hardware and its function is completely different from software. It's nothing without each other. Actually, hardware does one type of computer work and software does another type of work, therefore in the absence of one, the other is no longer of any use. So let's start this post and know with examples, what is hardware.

What is Computer Hardware ?

The physical elements of a computer that we can see and touch are called "hardware". For example keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, motherboard, RAM etc. are all computer hardware. In fact, these are the physical parts of the computer, which make up our computer. Hardware is usually directed by software to execute any commands or instructions.

Computer hardware is divided into several different parts.

1. Input device

1. Input Device

Input devices those are hardware devices that can send instructions and data given by the user in the computer. You can control and communicate of the computer using an input device.

Note:~ The most commonly used input devices on the computer are keyboard and mouse.

*~* Some main examples of input devices are given in details :~

1. Keyboard :~ The keyboard is the most popular input device of a computer. Which is used to input data in the form of text and character in a computer. The keyboard was invented by Christopher Letham Scholze. The keyboard is called 'kunjipatal' in Hindi. With the help of keyboard, we can give instructions to the computer. The keyboard is mainly used for writing text, but it is also a multifunctional device that can not only write but also control the computer. The number of keys / buttons in the keyboard is 104 or more.

2. Mouse :~ The mouse is a computer hardware input device. It is also called Pointing Device. The world's first computer mouse was made of wood. The computer mouse was invented in 1964 by Doug Englebert. With the help of a mouse, the movement of the cursor that appears on the computer screen (monitor) is controlled. The mouse usually has three buttons. Which is known as primary button (left button) and secondary button (right button). It is called right click and left click in common language. The third button is called the scroll wheel. The modern mouse has more than three buttons, which are used for gaming. With the help of a mouse it becomes easy to work on the computer.

3. Scanner :~ The scanner is an electronic input device. Which scans the hard copy and converts it into digital form. The scanned data can be viewed or changed through software and the scanned data can be stored in the computer.

Drum scanners were first used with computers. Which was built by Russel A. Kirsch in 1957 at the National Bureau of America. From this scanner, a photo of 5 semigroups of 3 months old son of Russel A. Kirsch was taken. Black and white scanners were used at that time and the first photo taken of his son was also black and white. After this, a lot of changes were made in the scanner and now the scanner can scan black and white and color photos and documents.

2. Output Device

Output devices are hardware devices that provide results to the user in the form of hardcopy and softcopy of the data processed by the computer.

1. Monitor:~ The monitor is the main hardware output device of the computer. Which helps the user to view the processed data (text, image, video) by the computer. The monitor is also called a visual display unit (VDU). It is just like the television present in your house. The monitor is the most commonly used output device of a computer.

3. Processing Device

When the user sends data to the computer through the input device, processing that data and giving the result through the output device, it is called the processing device.

CPU :~ CPU is the hardware processing device of a computer. Whose full name is Central Processing Unit. It is also called the brain of the computer. In this, the processor / microprocessor mounted on the motherboard is called CPU. It controls all the hardware devices and software connected to the computer. CPU processes the data inputted by the user and returns the result through the output device.

The CPU performs its functions with the help of three assistive devices :~

1. ALU :~ The full name of ALU is an arithmetic logical unit. The mathematician John von Neumann first proposed ALU in 1945. ALU is a part of computer processor. One or more than one ALU are used to operate the CPU. ALU is a digital circuit of computer hardware that is used for arithmetic and logical operations. ALU performs all functions of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and arithmetic. And it also performs logical tasks like comparing, selecting, matching, merging data.

2. CU :~ The full name of the CU is Control Unit. The control unit is the main hardware part of the CPU. Which controls all the functions of the computer. The control unit controls the process of moving data from the input device to memory and from memory to output device.

3. Memory Unit :~ The memory unit is the temporary hardware storage device of the CPU. Which stores input data or instructions for processing. A memory unit is one of the important hardware devices of a computer.
